All of the ob-gyn doctors on staff are dedicated to providing you with the best in comprehensive and individualized health care.
Dr. Mong was born and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and graduated in 1976 with a BS in Zoology. While there, he was honored to be a teaching assistant for Mammalian Anatomy (where he met his future wife) and was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
He went to medical school at the University of Cincinnati and graduated in 1980. Dr. Mong was inducted into the medical honorary Alpha Omega Alpha while there. His internship and residency were secured at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, Memorial Hospital. After completing his residency in 1984, Dr. Mong looked for a position in North Carolina – having fallen in love with the weather and the varied landscapes within the state. He joined the Wilkerson group in July of 1984 and has remained here since that time.
Dr. Mong's favorite activities generally involve outdoor pursuits such as camping, hiking, kayaking and boating. He is still married to that gal from Mammalian Anatomy, has two children and many pets. Dr. Mong is active in his church and is part of a medical group that works in Guatemala to assist in the medical care of an underserved population.
A. Michele Martin
Dr. Michele Martin was born in Raleigh and was delivered by the founder of the practice, Dr. Annie Louise Wilkerson. She was raised, however, on a farm in Stokes County, North Carolina. She received her BS in zoology at NC State University.
Dr. Martin attended medical school at East Carolina University and completed her OB/GYN residency training there as well. She has been practicing at Wilkerson OB/GYN for over 15 years. Dr. Martin has 2 children; daughter Tyler and son, Evan. If she ever has down time, she enjoys watching ACC sports, hot yoga, gardening, going to the beach and playing with her children.
Dr. Andrea Roche is board certified and has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology with Wilkerson Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2001. She was born in Ohio and grew up in North and South Carolina. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned her undergraduate degrees in English and Chemistry and her medical degree. She also managed to learn to scuba dive, study literature in England and to meet the man of her dreams along the way. Dr. Roche so loved Chapel Hill (and Michael whom she soon married) that she decided to stay for medical school. She then completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Ohio State University.
Dr. Roche was eager to return to the warmth of the Triangle to settle and raise a family, and she is pleased to be a part of Wilkerson OB/GYN. She loves her job and especially appreciates the opportunity to build relationships with her patients, caring for them through both the joyful as well as the difficult times. She is most happy when spending time with her husband and three energetic children, Vincent, Jack and Chelsea. If any free time can be found, she also enjoys movies, cooking, travel and curling up with a good book.
Dr. Phelicia Flanagan grew up in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. She graduated in the first baccalaureate class at Peace College in Raleigh with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She then attended The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University as a Brody Scholar. While in medical school, she became a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She then completed her OB/GYN residency at The Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia in 2005.
Dr. Flanagan and her husband, Benji, knew they wanted to return to Raleigh after spending a few years here before she entered medical school. “Although I have only been with Wilkerson OB/GYN since 2005, I hope this is where I practice for the rest of my career. I look forward to taking care of patients through many stages of their lives.”
In her spare time away from Wilkerson OB/GYN, Dr. Flanagan enjoys exercising, watching sports and spending time with her family (husband, Benji; daughter, Claire; son, Jay and their beloved Vizsla, Zoey).
Dr. Michelle Homeister and her family are excited to have made Raleigh home since 2005. She received her Bachelor of Science from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and remained there performing biomedical research for several years thereafter. She earned her medial degree from the Michigan State College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan and continued at MSU-CHM for her OBGYN residency training. Following training she spent five years in private practice and as a CHM-MSU clinical instructor in Flint, Michigan. The Homeisters moved to Raleigh when her husband joined the faculty at the UNC School of Medicine. Michelle practiced with another OB/GYN group in Raleigh before proudly joining Wilkerson in August 2008.
Dr. Homeister enjoys general obstetrics and gynecology practice and feels that establishing a good rapport and trusting relationship is crucial to successful outcomes. Of special interest to Dr. Homeister is Robotics Surgery. She is a qualified da Vinci Surgeon and can be found on the DavinciSurgery.com physician finder page.
The Drs. Homeisters have two sons, ages 8 and 11 years old. The family enjoys Colorado skiing, Michigan boating and visiting the North Carolina beaches and mountains as often as possible. The newest addition to the family is a 6 month old Vizsla puppy, Bella - born to keep things interesting.
Dr. Kirk Matthews, Jr. is the newest member to join Wilkerson OB/GYN on August 1, 2014. Dr. Matthews attended the University of Georgia and earned an undergraduate degree in Biology. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee. Dr Matthews recently completed his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. He was elected chief administrative resident by the faculty and his peers subsequent to receiving various awards in leadership and medical student teaching.
Dr. Matthews loves that OB/GYN is a unique field of medicine, in which he has the opportunity to provide the best care in both the office and the operating room. Getting to know my patients in a clinical setting, as well as preparing them for one of the most important days of their lives is the best part of this specialty. Another particular interest of Dr. Matthews is that of laparoscopic surgery, both with the aid of the DaVinci Robotic Surgical System, as well as with traditional laparoscopic procedures.
He is very excited to explore Raleigh and all it has to offer, especially the numerous golf courses, nearby beaches, mountains and the music scene. Dr. Matthews is a proud father to sons, Oxford (born April 2014) and Henry (born June 2016). He enjoys spending time with his wife Jordyn, sons and their dogs, Appomattox and Ruth James.
