Our Practice History
Wilkerson OB-GYN has an established reputation for providing exceptional care to women of the Raleigh area from adolescence through the reproductive and menopausal years. Our practice was established in 1940 by the great Dr. Annie Wilkerson. As the first female obstetrician/gynecologist in Raleigh, she quickly earned the respect and admiration of her patients and the community. Chances are that you know someone who was delivered by Dr. Annie or her brother Louis over the course of their long and productive careers.
A Partnership Approach to Healthcare
Dr. Annie's commitment to women's health continues today. Our exceptional physicians and staff are able to offer you a unique blend of experience, the latest medical technology, and old-fashioned personal attention - all in a welcoming, comfortable and respectful atmosphere.
You will find that we are dedicated to providing you with the best in comprehensive and individualized health care. We approach each patient interaction as a partnership, taking the time to get to know you and to listen to your concerns. We value the relationships that we build with our patients and the trust that they put in our practice.
We invite you to make an appointment with one of our doctors and find out what makes Wilkerson Obstetrics and Gynecology so special.

Outpatient Procedures now Available in Office Surgical Suite
May 2013 - We are pleased to announce that Wilkerson OB-GYN is now able to offer NovaSure Ablation, Hysteroscopy and the LEEP procedures in our Office Surgical Suite. Previously, these procedures were only performed in an outpatient setting but can now be done here in the office for most patients. Benefits for the patient include being in a more familiar setting for the procedure as well as it being less expensive (for most patients depending on their insurance plan).
NovaSure Ablation - an outpatient surgical procedure used to treat heavy or prolonged menstrual periods by destroying the superficial tissue layer of the uterine cavity. Often a hysteroscopy and D&C are performed along with this procedure. For more information, visit NovaSure.com.
Hysteroscopy - an office or outpatient surgery performed to assess the cavity of the uterus. A small camera is inserted through the dilated cervix to allow the interior of the uterus to be visualized. This procedure is often combined with a D&C. Polyps, fibroids, and other intrauterine masses may be evaluated and sometimes removed in this way.
LEEP (Loop Electrocautery Excision Procedure) - a surgical procedure used in certain situations to treat abnormal cells (dysplasia) of the cervix. An electric current is directed through a thin wire loop which is used to remove a portion of the cervix containing the area of abnormality.
Please feel free to contact our office for any questions or additional information regarding the above procedures.
