Our Practice History

Wilkerson OB-GYN has an established reputation for providing exceptional care to women of the Raleigh area from adolescence through the reproductive and menopausal years. Our practice was established more than 60 years ago by the great Dr. Annie Wilkerson. As the first female obstetrician/gynecologist in Raleigh, she quickly earned the respect and admiration of her patients and the community. Chances are that you know someone who was delivered by Dr. Annie or her brother Louis over the course of their long and productive careers.

Wilkerson OB-GYN is pleased to offer the da Vinci® Robotic Assisted Surgery

November 2010 - Dr. Michelle Homeister has been certified to perform the da Vinci Robotic Assisted Hysterectomy Surgery. This is an innovative surgery which is less invasive and offers numerous potential benefits over traditional open surgery. Additional information can be found at the da Vinci Hysterectomy website. Please contact our office to schedule an appointment with Dr. Homeister to determine if this might be your best treatment option.

LEEP (Loop Electrocautery Excision Procedure) Available in Office

November 2010 - We are pleased to announce that Wilkerson OB-GYN is now able to offer the LEEP procedure in our office. Previously, this procedure was only performed in an outpatient setting but can now be done here in the office for most patients. Benefits for the patient include being in a more familiar setting for the procedure as well as it being less expensive (for most patients depending on their insurance plan). LEEP is a surgical procedure used in certain situations to treat abnormal cells (dysplasia) of the cervix. An electric current is directed through a thin wire loop which is used to remove a portion of the cervix containing the area of abnormality.
